Moments a letter to my children

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about life. The moments of happiness, moments of sadness, moments of hardship, moments of love, moments of satisfaction, moments of reflection, all the moments in your memory from birth to this present moment.

Moments that have defined and brought us to where we are today. Moments where we went left instead of right and moments when we went right instead of left. Moments that brought shear happiness and moments that brought shear heartbreak.

moments-3These moments we treasure and remember happy or sad we carry with us and they will never fade, they will never go away, they will always be in our minds and our hearts. These moments can still define us now in this moment simply by guiding our new moments.

If it is a happy moment and we had a similar moment years ago chances are we will take the new moment and make it a new happy moment in our life.

If it is a horrible moment and we had a similar one years ago and we went left instead of right and things got worse chances are we will go right instead of left hoping that going right will be less painful.

There are moments though that will never change going left or going right. The only thing you can do is choose and make a path straight ahead where there is no path. You have to make your own path as there is no right or wrong path for that moment. There is only you and your decision to make the moment.

All I know for sure is the moments in your life define you up until this very moment and every moment after this will define you. At the end of your life you don’t want to be thinking about something or someone and wish you would have made another decision at the time instead of the moment you chose.

Choose your moments as each second that passes is a new one!

I almost gave up blogging

I almost gave up blogging recently due to a lot of high stress situations I have going on in my life at the moment and that feeling of being completely overwhelmed. Although I do love blogging and telling my little stories and tidbits of advice I can write to my children blogging can frustrate a blogger to no end.

I have found myself on more than one occasion feeling quite down and frustrated with blogging simply because I had nothing to write, blogging can be a brutal beast when this happens. You sit there irritated and can get quite pissed with yourself and your blog till you finally stand up walk away thinking “fuck it! It’s not worth the frustration!”.

So how does a blogger deal with everything going on in their life and write posts that they either cannot, won’t or do not want to write about? We all know as bloggers we tend to write about things that are going on inside of us or around us, but no one wants to read post after post of heartache and sadness within a person.

Blogging can certainly be a friend or foe!

I have no idea how to deal with it until situations in my life start get much better. The big thing with me is I am an emotional person and I live off of the emotions I feel whether it’s happiness, sadness, love, anger, desire or whatever other emotion I am feeling at the moment. I am who I am. My posts obviously reflect that if you have had a good read of my blog.

So yesterday my blog was about to be taken offline at 11;59 pm and as I sat paging through all the hard work I have put in to my blog, all the heart, the blood, sweat and tears I decided to renew it for another year and we will see where this blogging experience takes me for another year!

Becoming a Father

Becoming a father for the first time will be the most amazing time of your life. Quite honestly it is not the same for dad as it is for mother to have a baby. Those 9 months leading up to birth you know there’s a baby coming and you fully grasp it and your excited about becoming a dad, but your life seems much the same it has all along until the day your baby is born.

http___www.pixteller.com_pdata_t_l-145186I know this may not make total sense right now, but it is true. As the fathers we spend nine months watching in amazement as the baby grows inside of the mom. We have a connection to the baby and it feels deep which it already is because we know that we are having a baby and we know that we love that little baby. Honestly though the connection for the dad doesn’t truly come until that very moment we see and hold our baby for the first time.

After the baby is born is when we start to feel the true impact this little person has in our lives and we soon learn that life is forever changed. Things we used to do either become almost impossible to do or we simply just do not care to do them (at least not as much). Friday night drinks turns in to pizza and a movie night. Saturdays have now become grocery shopping and cleaning instead of a leisurely stroll through the local markets.

The first few days feel like a blur as your tired and exhausted trying to be there and helping all you can. Your sleep is interrupted a few times a night and you wake blurred eyed and feeling like you partied for  week straight, but haven’t had a drink. I call this post baby hangover. As the excitement and nerves are soon dulled by sheer exhaustion you start to settle in and and find a bit of a groove in your new life.

There is nothing out there that can prepare you for the emotional roller coaster you will have when your baby is born as we all go through different emotions and at different times. Just remember that mom is going through all you are too and even more. When your baby is born it’s not a time to be selfish as you have 2 others to worry about and need you as well.

I was wrong!

square-quote-4-exportI ran across this quote just after writing “I don’t want you to be me!“. It led me to thinking about myself and who I am and how I am as a person can affect my children in their lives. I came to realize the more I thought about this quote is I can’t just say to them “I don’t want you to be me” and excuse myself and my behavior, by saying “don’t be me”! I want them to be just like me, so I must make the changes in myself and show them.

I don’t want to say to them “do as I say, not as I do”. To me that is not a way I want to parent, so my only option is to show them. To show them that I want to change the things I do not like about me. I know I can never be perfect, but I can be a better me.

Kids emulate their parents. If you have patients they will be patient. If you are yelling a lot they will yell a lot. Make the changes in yourself and you will see the changes in your children.
