Do you feel starting a blog has improved your life?

I was asked this question and wasn’t sure how to answer? Sometimes bogging has been a great help by letting me write and put things in to perspective and other times it has been frustrating as hell honestly! I do think though blogging overall has definitely improved my life as it gives me a place where I can sit and self examine myself and who I am on a daily basis.

Not just with parenting, but as a person overall. It has allowed me to step back and look at the person I am as a third person in a way. Sitting here at the keyboard and trying to think of blog posts to write and reading other blog posts really opens the window to your own soul to yourself in a way that you have never seen yourself.

to-blog-or-not-to-blog

After a bad day you can sit and start typing and then you have that moment where you say to yourself “oh shit! That’s where I went wrong!” or you have a great day and that moment of self pride where you smile and feel proud of yourself and how you handled that day.

Blogging is truly bitter sweet! There are times when all you write about are the things that go wrong in your life and there are times when you write about the things that do go right in your life. Either way you are blogging and putting yourself out there for all to read and that can be scary, but worth it in the end when you hit publish and you sit back and read the words of your self reflection.

You can’t really go wrong writing how you feel when writing your blog post as it is a moment caught in time and recorded forever in words YOUR words.

Do you feel starting a blog has improved your life or added one too many things on your plate?

Moving to England

So fellow bloggers I have decided that a change is needed and have decided to move abroad. I have decided on England. At this point I am not sure for how long, but at least a year and when will be determined when the papers are processed.

I am sure that a lot of you may be asking yourself why England? Well England has a special place in my heart and I seem to live with one foot halfway there anyways. I have heard so much about England and need to see and experience life there. Of course I also want to be able to meet all my blogging friends as well.

flag_england

There are a lot of things needed to be done before we run off for an adventure of a life time, so I am asking for the help of all the bloggers that follow me in England. I have to start looking for a rough area to live. As most of you know I have two teen boys (Ryley 16 and Logen 14) and Olivia who’s 5. I have to thing of schooling and activities for them all.

So I need some help from from my fellow bloggers! I am looking at the map of England, but obviously I have no clue about where too live? I want a nice central point where we can travel fairly easy throughout the country. Somewhere where the schooling is good and there are things to do keeping in mind I have teens and a young one?

So where in England would be a great place for us to live?

#happyquacks August, 19, 2015

Hello people and welcome to the #happyquacks linky, week 10!!

I have absolutely loved running this linky and reading all your happy posts and finding lots of new bloggers. Unfortunately this will be my last week for a little while. New work (and other) commitments over the next few weeks means I simply won’t have the time I need to run #happyquacks. I want to be able to give it my all and my time doesn’t allow that. This isn’t a goodbye to this linky but merely a “see ya soon”.

Thanks to all those who linked up last week, I really appreciate all the support and love reading your posts. Here are my 3 favourites:

  1. All past midnight’s post about tips for baking with your pre verbal child. Baking is one of those things I said I’d do more often and somehow time has a way of getting away from us. Although we do bake, this post has inspired me to try and do it more regularly. Whether it’s cookies, muffins or a cake, most children love the process of mixing and pouring.
  1. I love Silly Mummy’s post about her toddler speaking for her baby. It’s amazing to see the relationship between siblings start to form. I’m sure it’ll be a very special one.

  2. One YummyMummy’s post about her top five baby tunes had me giggling. Mainly because S’s absolutely favourite songs are “Gangnam Style” and “Uptown Funk”. He’s also partial to “Let it go” these days.

On to this week’s linky…

This week I’m linking up with a post about the joys of leaving my phone behind (when I’m out with S).
I host this linky with Natasha over at Mama Duck Quacks. This linky is open to all and every post you’ve ever written about anything that makes you happy. It could be your kids, your spouse, your family, your holiday, whatever it is that makes you happy.

Each week I’ll pick 3 of my favourite posts and they’ll get a little shout out in the following week’s link up post.

I don’t want to set any hard and fast rules BUT linky’s only work if you share the love so please comment on at least one of our posts and maybe 2-3 others that have linked up using the hashtag #happyquacks. Put the badge on the bottom of your post and lastly, if you tweet us your URL (using the hashtag #happyquacks), we’ll happily retweet all your posts. (@mamaduckquacks and @moderndadpages)

It would also make us happy if you followed us on Twitter and Facebook.

#happyquacks will go live on a Wednesday evening (9pm GMT) until Sunday evening (9pm GMT).

So what if we changed the word to “thoughtful”?

Last week I wrote a post asking why do we say “marriage is a lot of work?”. After reading the many responses and the post Trista wrote from Domesticated Momster there was one word that kept popping in to my head and that’s “thoughtful”!

Before I dive in to this I do have to say it still takes two people to be thoughtful in a relationship, otherwise it’s just one person doing it alone and it still doesn’t help.

So what if we took the word work out of “marriage is a lot of work” and changed it to “marriage takes thoughtfulness”? Would that change the dynamics of how we look and feel about marriage? Would it make a difference?

Being thoughtful is not a grand gesture every once in a while when you feel guilty for neglecting your relationship. It’s a constant everyday quality that can make a difference in any relationship. It’s the little things that are done everyday and they come from the heart to show that you are thinking of them and you love them.

  • When you wake up say “good morning! Did you sleep well?”.
  • Make them a morning coffee.
  • Say “I love you” not the automatic kind as your rushing out the door, but the kind where you look them in the eyes and they can feel that love. (Takes, but a second to do that)
  • Make them a quiche or some other favourite dish of theirs, just because you want too.
  • When your getting grocery or at the convenience store and you see their favourite chocolate bar or snack buy it and bring it to them.
  • Ask them how their day was, but pay attention. Make it a conversation, not an ask and I will listen while sorting out other stuff and not really paying attention.
  • Get up after dinner make them their favourite drink and tell them to relax and you will clean the kitchen.

There are an endless amount of things you can do to show them “thoughtfulness” and “appreciation” for all they MEAN to you. The biggest one is still the hug, kiss and looking them deep in their eyes and saying 3  words from your heart “I love you”.

tumblr_mlsau8Wkpx1r6bdeuo1_500

Myself I associate the word “work” with things I do not enjoy doing. So for me associating the word “work” with marriage simply means that I don’t enjoy it. As I said at the top if there is only one person being thoughtful in a marriage and the other person just doesn’t get it, it simply won’t work. You are two people who chose to create a life together and yes life does throw curve balls at us and life gets busy and your job takes over, but the one person who will always be there at the end of the day is the person who loves you the most. Be thoughtful and show them you appreciate them and love them as often as you can.

So trying saying I need to be more thoughtful in my marriage, instead of marriage is a lot of work and see where that takes you? Could be the best change of word in your vocabulary.
