#happyquacks August, 12, 2015

Hello people and welcome to the #happyquacks linky, week 9!! I can’t believe we’re already near Mid-August. Everyone in the UK loves to complain about the weather (even in the summer! Its too hot haha) but I suppose it gives us something to talk about 😉 Although I’m not a big fan of the heat, the summer and all the adventure it brings is always a happy time.

Thanks to all those who linked up last week, I really appreciate all the support and love reading your posts. Here are my 3 favourites:

  1. Cuddle fairy’s post “Mean what you say” spoke to me this week. Kids are smart, sometimes as adults we don’t give them enough credit. So even when rewarding and “punishing”, it’s important to be smart about it and follow through with what we say.

  2. Angela’s (Days in bed) post about finding her inner artist scared me a little because it shows what an influence a teacher can have on a child’s life. Thankfully for her it’s not too late and she’s found her passion/talent but not before having it knocked out of her as a child.

  3. Children want to have fun…they want to laugh and run and swim and jump and more than often, none of the things that really make them happy, cost anything. I loved this post by Rockin’ Random Mom – My top 10 things to do with the kids without spending money.

On to this week’s linky…

This week I’m linking up with a post about my favourite time of day.

I host this linky with Natasha over at Mama Duck Quacks. This linky is open to all and every post you’ve ever written about anything that makes you happy. It could be your kids, your spouse, your family, your holiday, whatever it is that makes you happy.

Each week I’ll pick 3 of my favourite posts and they’ll get a little shout out in the following week’s link up post.

I don’t want to set any hard and fast rules BUT linky’s only work if you share the love so please comment on at least one of our posts and maybe 2-3 others that have linked up using the hashtag #happyquacks. Put the badge on the bottom of your post and lastly, if you tweet us your URL (using the hashtag #happyquacks), we’ll happily retweet all your posts. (@mamaduckquacks and @moderndadpages)

It would also make us happy if you followed us on Twitter and Facebook.

#happyquacks will go live on a Wednesday evening (9pm GMT) until Sunday evening (9pm GMT).

Why do we say “marriage is a lot of work?”

436.marriage-is-a-choice-and-a-lot-of-hard-workWhen I hear people talking about “marriage being a lot of work” it actually strikes a cord deep in me and I have to ask “why is marriage a lot of work, but when you hear people refer to a friend or best friend it flourishes”?

The word work by definition is “Activity involving mental or physical effort done in order to achieve a result“. Is this what marriage is a result? Marriage in my eyes should be the easiest relationship in your life. It shouldn’t feel like you have to go to work to keep your job as a partner to a person. You shouldn’t feel like you need to do things to keep them happy rather they should appreciate the small things you do for them. Marriage should be to your best friend and it should flourish rather than feel like “work”!

So my question to you is… and this I am really curious about and would love the feedback! Please put your thoughts in the comment box.

Why do we say marriage is a lot of work?

Having a baby

I had this video (Two Guys Find Out What It Feels Like To Give Birth) sent to me and it got me thinking about the very different experiences men and women have when having a baby. I think I now understand better why mothers have a very different and emotional connection to their children than men do and yes that even includes myself and I am very close to my children.

Let’s be honest dads, we simply cannot fathom what it’s like to carry a baby from conception to birth! The changes that happen in a woman physically and mentally is something we cannot recreate in our own minds and bodies for a complete experience. I know personally I could not imagine 9 months of growing a baby in my body and how that would change me as a person? I can’t imagine the changes in my body or mentality?

The journey a woman takes from conception to birth is an absolute wonder as her body builds a little human being and that is exactly what her body does. I can’t imagine how…

  • Morning sickness feels.
  • The first time the baby moves inside of me.
  • The feeling of how tired the body feels as the baby nourishes itself feeding off of my own body.
  • How it feels to have my hormones thrown off and my emotions all over the place.
  • The aches and pains all over.
  • To have constant heartburn.
  • To want to pee all the time.
  • To not be able to stand, walk, sit or lay down comfortably.
  • To have contractions.
  • To give birth.

I know this must be a short list (Ladies feel free to add to the list in the comments), but as men we cannot truly comprehend what it is like to have a baby from conception to birth. I know for myself my three are literally three of my hearts walking around in this great big world and I can only imagine how much more intensified that is for mother. Her body built her child bit by bit, day by day and for the mother her children are her world.

quote-Nuno-Bettencourt-having-a-baby-is-one-of-the-150616

I think as dads we need to stop trying to recreate what it would feel like to have a baby unless we are willing to do the full term from conception to birth and simply appreciate and remember what mothers go through to have babies is simply a natural wonder and why they have a much deeper connection to their children.

#happyquacks August, 5, 2015

Hello people and welcome to the #happyquacks linky, week 8!! A bit like my baby growing up, it’s gone by so quickly!

Thanks to all those who linked up last week, I really appreciate all the support and love reading your posts. Here are my 3 favourites:

  1. Nonnie by Hectic Dad is a beautiful tribute to his grandmother. This post brought tears to my eyes. The relationship between grandchild and grandparent is a beautiful one. It’s a long read but totally worth it.

  2. Dan at Style with substance wrote a great post about things she wants to tell her pregnant friends. I wrote a similar post a couple of years ago so I could totally resonate with her post…great advice.

  3. Carly aka mummy wrote an interesting post about creating a baby sensory environment at home. Although classes are a great way to meet other mummy’s and get yourself and baby out of the house, there are days where it’s easier to create a class like environment at home.

On to this week’s linky…

This week Natasha is linking up with a post to all mama’s out there!

I host this linky with Natasha over at Mama Duck Quacks. This linky is open to all and every post you’ve ever written about anything that makes you happy. It could be your kids, your spouse, your family, your holiday, whatever it is that makes you happy.

Always and Forever (Poem)

tumblr_static_always-forever

From the moment we met

I knew you were the one

I was already lost in love

You stole my heart that day

Your brown eyes so beautiful

your smile so bright

The way your face lit at my smile

The sound of your voice

As it sang through my head

I wouldn’t change anything

from that moment in time

it was perfect

I knew then and I know now

This love is always and forever

 Love you babe
